Last November, I had the absolute honor of photographing Marina & Josh’s wedding day, and it was one of those beautiful autumn celebrations where every detail felt intentional and heartfelt. This one was extra special for me because I had photographed Josh’s sister’s wedding and their cousin’s wedding in the past — so finally getting to work with Marina & Josh felt like coming full circle. There’s something so sweet about being invited back by the same family again and again, and I couldn’t wait to capture this chapter of their story.
Getting Ready at Our Sweet Retreat ✨
We started the morning at Our Sweet Retreat in Wilsonville, the most charming spot for getting ready. Marina and her bridesmaids were in cozy matching PJs soaking in the calm before the day officially began. I photographed all the little details — the rings, shoes, invitations, and sentimental touches that told their story.
Once it was time, Marina slipped into her gorgeous gown. Before heading out, she shared a first look with her dad on the staircase — such an emotional, sweet moment.
First Look & Portraits
Josh waited just outside the house for their first look. The way his face lit up when he saw Marina for the first time was priceless. We took advantage of the beautiful white house backdrop for their couple portraits, capturing both romantic shots and candid, joy-filled moments between them.
Afterward, we gathered the wedding party and family for portraits — the perfect mix of elegance and laughter before heading into the rest of the day.
A Rainy Adventure at Hoyt Arboretum
Before the ceremony, we made a quick stop at Hoyt Arboretum, one of my favorite spots in Portland for fall portraits. The trees were bursting with golden and fiery orange leaves, creating the dreamiest autumn setting.
Just as we started shooting, the rain began to fall, but honestly, it made the photos even more magical. Marina & Josh embraced the moment, umbrellas in hand, and we captured the sweetest rainy-day portraits — the kind you’ll look back on and smile about for years to come.
A Heartfelt Ceremony at Blockhouse
From there, we made our way to Blockhouse in Portland, a stunning, intimate venue with a lush, garden-like atmosphere. The ceremony space was set with a wooden cross at the altar, surrounded by greenery and soft light.
Marina & Josh exchanged heartfelt vows, shared communion, and there was such a deep sense of love and faith woven into every part of the ceremony. It was beautiful to witness and even more special to document.
Celebrating the Night Away
After the ceremony, the celebration continued with family photos, heartfelt toasts, first dances, cake cutting, and signing the marriage license. The atmosphere was warm and full of love — exactly what you hope for on a wedding day.
When I headed out that evening, I couldn’t help but feel so grateful to have been part of yet another milestone for this wonderful family. From the cozy getting-ready moments to the laughter under umbrellas, Marina & Josh’s day was a perfect reflection of who they are — full of love, joy, and intentionality.
